Esther Walton is a main character on The Waltons. She is played by Ellen Corby throughout the entire series. She is the wife of Zebulon and the mother of John.

Personality
Esther is a very strong, independent and determined woman. Although she often seems to be very gruff, she loves her family dearly. She is extremely religious and comments that in her youth she was expected to go to church on Sundays and that the preaching often went on all day. She helps around the house with cooking, cleaning, and doing laundry. She is extremely strict, even more so then Olivia, and she does not tolerate any nonsense, even from her own husband.
